PJP2 PROLOG 160623 PROLOG Focus - 1 Chronicles 21:17....
Psalm 9:2 (ESV/emphasis added/jaj)...."I Will Be GLAD And Exult IN You; I Will Sing Praise To Your NAME, O Most High."....
PJP2 PROLOG POST 160623 - 1 Chronicles 21:17 (ESV/emphasis added/jaj)...."And David said to God, 'Was It NOT I who gave command to number the people? It IS I who have sinned and done great evil. BUT these sheep (Your people), what have they done? Please Let Your Hand, O Lord my God, Be Against me And Against my father's house. BUT Do NOT Let the plague Be On Your people.'”
Profession, Confession and Intercession - that's the three Concepts I Hear The Holy Spirit Sharing with me this morning. In this one short Passage Of the Word Select (POWS), the Holy Spirit packs BOTH of these Concepts into our thoughts.
If you haven't studied 1 Chronicles, the context here is that King David (1 Chronicles 21:1) was 'incited by the evil one' to pridefully do a 'census of Israel'. Though The WORD doesn't say so, the inference I pick-up on is that David's 'intent' is to be able to say, "See how many people I lead? See how great I am?"....YAHWEH doesn't think much of King David's abuse of his authority as King of Israel....1 Chronicles 21:7 says...."This command (taking the census) was also evil in the Sight of God"....The Results: God Gives David a Choice of Punishments....more on that in a moment....
Ok, so, Jeff, Profession, Confession and Intercession?
Yep, bear with me just a bit longer.....
Profession: David, the shepherd boy transformed/anointed King, a 'man after God's Heart', was still vulnerable to the evil one's manipulation of temptation and distraction. We know this from the events surrounding "The Bathsheba Affair". In 1 Chronicles 21 we see David succumb to the tweaking of his 'personal pride' with regards to Israel. Yet, when David gets his noggin on straight, he quickly picks up that he BOOFED it, and as a Good Leader does, takes FULL RESPONSIBILITY for his actions
Confession: David doesn't quietly, or to himself 'confess' that he'd made a mess of things through ordering this census. He does the right thing and confesses to God The Father that the whole kit-and-caboodle was his bad
Intercession: As I mentioned in PJP2 Thanks 160623 this morning, David's Act of Intercession is, for me, a foreshadowing of our Lord Jesus standing in front of God The Father, our Final Judge, and Begging The Mercy of God's End-Time Court of Eternal Justice, pleading our case, and His Willingness to Surrender His All for us
Wow, and God The Father both Calls us to Follow Him In His Way of Profession, Confession and Intercession, AND Reminds us He Has DONE The Exact Same SITREP for us as well.
Thus my Prayer for us today - O Lord Jesus, Thank You that You Employed Your Profession as God's One and Only Son on our Behalf. Father God, we Praise You that Your Encourage and Hear our Confession of where we so often slip-up. Holy Spirit, Thank You for Interceding for us in Ways we have little to no clue of. Lord Jesus, Father God, Holy Spirit, Help us to Follow David's Example as well. May we Ever Be Sensitive to those ways we have fallen or strayed. Father God, when we Finally Pick Up On that we have stumbled, Guide us Swiftly to You to Pray for Your Mercy and Grace. Lord Jesus, we Worship and Praise You and Lift Up our Prayers in Your Holy Name....Amen/Amen....jaj
