PJP2 PROLOG 160608 PROLOG Focus - 2 Kings 1:13-15....
Psalm 92:1-2 (ESV/emphasis added/jaj)...."IT Is GOOD To Give Thanks To The Lord, To Sing Praises To Your Name, O Most High; To Declare Your Steadfast LOVE In The Morning, And Your Faithfulness By Night,"....
PJP2 PROLOG POST 160608 - 2 Kings 1:13-15 (ESV/emphasis added/jaj)...."Again the king (Ahaziah) sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and Fell on his knees Before Elijah And entreated/pleaded with him, 'O man of God, Please Let my Life, AND the Life of these fifty servants of yours, Be Precious in your sight. Behold, Fire Came Down From Heaven AND Consumed the two former captains of fifty men with their fifties, BUT Now Let my Life Be Precious in your sight.' Then The Angel Of The Lord Said to Elijah, 'Go down with him; Do NOT be afraid of him.' So he arose and went down with him to the king"....
I know I've written a PJP2 with regards to "The Third Captain" before. He is such a fascinating individual to me. I've noted the last three years in a row, in my evolving Story/Tales Idea File (STIF) that I want to write a book or two focused (and thus titled), "The Third Captain".....
Ok, sorry, I'm drifting from task (imagine that) - The Point I Hear The Holy Spirit raising with The Third Captain this round is - (1) Humble; (2) Surrender; (3) Trust; (4) Faith
Now we know very little about these three Captains - about all we can tell is the three are in the Army of Israel, serving at the whim of King Ahaziah Ahabson, the current wicked ruler of the Northern Kingdom. Clearly Captain One and Two had taken the approach of 'fetching' Elijah from a stance, it would seem, "I've got my orders. I'm The Captain....so you MUST Obey!" As noted by The Third Captain, Capt One and Two (no pun intended) 'crashed and burned' from their approach. The Third Captain applied his INTEL that had been gleaned from Captain One and Two's failure to accomplish their assignment. Perhaps The Third Captain was a bit more of a YAHWEH Believer than Captain One and Two. Clearly, as he addresses Elijah, The Third Captain is in a position of humility (on his knees) bowing before Elijah. His Plea to Elijah Reflects that he has Surrendered his 'authority' to Elijah (and I'd say God as well); He Trusts that Elijah (and again The Lord) will honor his Plea for he and his company; The Third Captain demonstrates a HUGE Faith in Elijah's compassion and sensitivity to YAHWEH's Overhead Guidance in reflection of The Third Captain's plea. God The Father Immediately Answers The Third Captain's Prayer for Grace.
So - will God The Father DO The Same for us?
2 Corinthians 1:20 (ESV/emphasis added/jaj)...."For All The Promises Of God FIND Their YES In HIM. That Is Why It Is THROUGH Him That we Utter our AMEN To God For His Glory."....
Interesting quick side note.....we see that 'The Angel Of The Lord' tells Elijah that he Can Go with The Third Captain, no fear. Now, The Holy Spirit doesn't Reveal IF The Third Captain saw The Angel Of The Lord.....BUT here's my pondering - Some Biblical Scholars have conjectured that in The Old Testament, whenever we read 'The Angel Of The Lord' this is in reality referring to our Lord Jesus' appearance prior to His First Advent. I am simply saying may have well been an instance of The Third Captain 'being Saved' in more ways than one.....
My Prayer for us today.....O Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, Father God, Thank You for Your Loving Grace. Lord Jesus, Help us to Also Have the Understanding Reflected by The Third Captain. May we, Holy Spirit, Ever Approach You as he did, in a spirit of True Humility and Surrender. Father God, May we, like him, Ever Trust and Have Faith in You and Your Grace towards us. Lord Jesus, again Thank You for Your Patience and Presence in our Lives. Help us to Always Reflect That You Are With us. May we Be Prepared to Share Your Word and to Listen To You at All Times. In Your Holy Name, O Lord, we Lift These Prayers.....May Your Will Ever Be Done....All To Your Glory....Amen/Amen....jaj
