PJP2 PROLOG POST 160512 - 1 Samuel 19:5-8 (ESV/emphasis added/jaj)...."{Jonathan said to his father Saul}....'For he (David) took his life in his hand AND he struck down the Philistine, AND The Lord WORKED A Great Salvation for all Israel. You Saw IT,And Rejoiced. Why then will you sin against Innocent Blood by killing David without cause?' And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore, 'As The Lord Lives, David Shall NOT be put to death.' And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before. And there was war again. And David went out and fought with the Philistines and struck them with a great blow, so that they fled before him."....
It is an interesting triangular relationship between King Saul, his son Jonathan, and David (God's Anointed Next-in-Line King of Israel). Saul, who I'm certain recognizes through his off-again/on-again 'madness' David IS God's Real Deal. Jonathan and David are best of friends. Which as we read in 1 Samuel Chapters 19-20, mad King Saul is not a happy camper with his son Jonathan being close to Saul's 'rival' David. And then there's David. In my noggin' all David's simply trying to do and be is what he is suppose to be at the time.
In today's PROLOG POWS (1 Samuel 19:5-8) we see one of the first threesome interactions in which Saul, amazingly, has a moment of clarity AND Listens to Jonathan's input regards David. All is seemingly well, for a brief instant.
Then, as is the way of Life....."And there was war again."
Literally all Hades breaks out once again. Warrior David goes off to battle, kicks butt, takes names - King Saul's madness and jealousy and fear of David 'stealing' The King's Crown returns with a vengeance - Jonathan is stuck in-the-middle....again.
Ok....Jeff....What Point of Encouragement, or Word of Good Cheer can you pull from this SITREP? Great Question indeed......Trust me, I've been Praying on this the entire time I'm writing.....
So here's what I Hear the Holy Spirit Sharing via each of our Three Characters....
King Saul: Selfishness can be Overcome by God's Wisdom and Love;
Jonathan: True Love of a Fellow Brother/Sister Facilitates God's Work in our Lives;
David: Focus on God's Mission in our Lives - The Rest....He Will Handle the Details......
Thus my Prayer for us today would be - O Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, Father God - Thank You for Your Amazing Love and Grace. Lord Jesus, Protect us and Keep us from falling prey to our own selfishness. Holy Spirit, Instill in us the Understanding that Your Love and Truth can even overcome our internal weaknesses. Father God, Thank You for Your Example of Steadfast Love via Jonathan. Help us, Lord, to Be a Brother to All like Jonathan was to David. Lord Jesus, Focus us on Your Mission in our Lives. Holy Spirit, we Surrender 'The Rest' to You. Father God, May Your Will Ever Be Done. O Lord Jesus, Holy Spirit, Father God, we Lift Up our Prayers in Your Holy Name....Amen/Amen....jaj
